Long Overdue Blog

I wrote this mga last week, just got around to posting it now. Nagsasayang ng panahon dito sa excel.

Shout outs

Before anything else though, a few shout-outs… EUNICE!!!J HYA!!!:) aba my bear sisters have been busy making paramdam. Thanks for your kind words….Hi din to Jenn Giz and Clair! MIA! :) Hello, salamat po sa pagpaparamdam sa blog, and thanks also for the compliments, they mean a lot. Don’t worry, I’m, like, so empowered now, and so much better off from the whole mess. I’ve healed, and I’m whole again. Natuto na ko. Sabi ko nga, there’s no going back, not even if he paid me. Hehehe! Thanks.:) Hi GAB, SARAH, ALLEN, at sa lahat ng nagparamdam with friendster personal messages :) :). There.

Why I haven’t blogged at all

I’ve been promising this blog thing for quite some time now, kawawa naman mga friends, fans, family and stalkers ko (hi JP, im borrowing the term from you). Busy kasi ako. And yes, I can hear the people who know me well disagreeing, the people who know that being busy doesn’t really stop me from doing things I enjoy doing (writing incohesive, rambling thoughts, for example), tama kayo, hindi lang yun yung reason. Pano kasi, some malevolent (joke lang) indonesians infected my usb flash disks (of which i have three, yabang), and as a consequence, my laptop and desktop, with the deadly brontok virus (say it with me, no prostitusi!). Bumagal tuloy ng husto ang computers ko, that i’d rather not even open them, kasi nakakainit lang ng ulo. Save for the necessary transferring of the pesteng icd10 to excel, which I also had to do. Not to be confused with Excel-the-place (wherein I spent so many hours happily wasting time, not playing DOTA, mind you, ugh, but going online and surfing the Internet), I meant microsoft excel. So there, I had to deal with a PC/laptop-less life for a while, that is why I was unable to blog for some time… and why there was a main line from my wallet to the Excel coffers. Pero ngayon naayos na… with quite a few bad trip consequences (the entire hard drive of my PC wala na, corrupted, buti na lang kahet papano anjan pa ren yung laptop ko… sayang nga lang yung pics and memories na nabura).

Wait lang, pa-digress ulit: There’s another thing I wanna make kwento. Of course, everyone knows na loyal Alva customer ako before, pero now, goodbye alva my sweet mistress goodbye! Pano kasi, mga asungot ang tao sa alva, buti pa sa excel. faster service, nicer people (may asungot lang na isa), the PCs have slots for flash disk. Maingay nga lang ang jolog dota population, but that’s okay.

Apparently the past several months has found me busy with internship (junior and then senior), tapos ngayon, apparently studying for the board exam… by using the term "apparently", I kid you not… as you can see, instead of studying here I am blogging… but that’s going ahead of what-seems-to-be-fleshing-out-as-a-very-long story…

Okay, so the 2 years of hellish internship ended sans fanfare and brouhaha, yay, last April. Mine ended much later due to make-ups for my lates and misdemeanors and shortcomings from people who still had to learn the meaning of the word "forgiveness"… so as it turned out, I did have makeup duty on the eve of my SI graduation, hahaha. My friend/former JI/co-SI na rin Ryan even told me as he congratulated me on grad day: "I can’t believe magkaduty pa tayo kagabi Ma’am Lau" (yup the kids my friends never got the hang of calling me just Lau, kahet friends naman kame lahat). Kaya ayun. At said graduation, I didn’t even invite friends/family… eventually, my dad found out, from his "Secret Service agents" (espiyas siempre pa), and he was surprised why I didn’t inform anybody. Nagtampo ata. Well, I didn’t, coz I didn’t stand to get any award anyway, and I was not particularly proud of it, anyway. Siempre no, wala lang yun, meant nothing to me but a sigh of relief, liberation from 2 years of tyranny and oppression…. Teka wait, so it did mean something to me pala.

Quest

Tapos, at that time, enrolled na ako with a review class, called QUEST (which has since ended by the last week of June). Sa sTaRcIRCLEqUEST? Wish ko lang! I was a Lansang baby, not a Johnny Manahan baby (sorry fans hindi ko pa time to shine). Hahaha, so to Jay and Gen (luv u guys my original co-starcirclequestors in disguise J), isa na akong makatotohanang questor. Belat, haha!

I was with Irene and Wena, and several other UE kiddoes. And during this time, although I admit naman I did try my best to listen well during the lectures (several episodes of tardiness notwithstanding), yun lang ginawa ko, and I hardly studied. Yuuk, what was wrong with me, you ask? I call it Denial (and Repression). Galing ko noh? Kaya I was (still am) hardly scared; my denial was protective. Wala lang, to prepare me kuno for the inevitability, the high stakes gamble of my life, the one I’ve been dreading, that is, the board exam. Right now, though, I feel na super kulang pa talaga kasi ang alam ko eh, but i’m not fretting much coz i am still sheathed and protected by denial. haay. what board exam? anyway, so nag-buhay estudyante ulit, i had classes from 8 to 5 daily (except pala tuesday).

SO the weeks went by, the months went by (sung to the tune of "Pray" sa OnceOnThisIsland?)… routine.

On my first week out of internship I gained 12 pounds (ibang klase!), and I became the heaviest I have ever been in my whole life. 12 pounds more than my baseline. Grabe. I’m not sure if I still weigh in at that level (have been touchy about the scales since), pero the last time I did weigh myself , I lost 4 out of the 12 na. Haay… Pero swear to God hindi naman ako kumain ng marami (yung usual ko lang)… maybe it’s all the lack of any form of physical exertion.

Sloth. Couch potato. Mouse potato. Yep, that’s me.

And supposedly board reviewer, part time…

I also got to somewhat catch up pala on my reading/book list (the non-medical type). Within the past weeks I finished Bridget Jones Diary and The Edge of Reason (re-reading them, actually, coz I read them na before, courtesy of my ex-room mate na si Rosa, but only till very recently did I get copies of my own), Deadeye Dick, The Sirens Of Titan and Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons by Kurt Vonnegut Jr (my latest acquisitions, hahaha!), Da Vinci Code (oo na, recently ko lang nabasa yun), 12 Red Herrings by J Archer, and the latest Harry Potter. And many other slightly less interesting books.

That has been my so-called life.

(More on my questor experiences next episode? Hmm. Maybe next time — Suffice it to say, nag-enjoy naman ako. Some lectures better than others. I learned quite a bit. And I’ve realized how badly I’ve lost my touch (and my friends know all about this na). Maybe because of the weight gain, ahehehe…)

TV addict’s Top 10

You can’t begin to imagine how many hours I’ve wasted just watching TV. Nasabik kasi ako, sobra. If you’ve noticed (yah right, you did), the last profile entry I had (before I changed it to conform to the truth) said "I love TV but I haven’t been watching in a while". Well, talk about compensating! Overcompensating pa nga eh! I’m such a TV geek/addict.

On days without classes, I’d wake up surprisingly early (for a late riser like me), mga 7 or slightly before that. I’ll do my bathroom rituals, eat breakfast (kung type ko yung pagkain), drink coffee, then drink my vitamins (one digression about this though… nung intern ako, I almost never took vitamins, although a friend-kuno-slash- asshole then admonished me to drink vitamins religiously… and since now I’ve heeded the advice, ayan ang taba ko na ngayon in comparison… sabotahe). And then I’ll park myself in front of the TV, hardly moving, and watch anything/everything, I’ve even watched several DVDs on one occasion (pero pag wala nice program on/walang bagong DVD, I review). I watch Kris Aquino’s game shows regularly (lam nyo naman I love her diba?), and Eat Bulaga while eating lunch (specifically for the Utak Henyo and the Bulagaan part… cracks me up… Vic Sotto and Jose’s "Sing A Song" knockknocks never failed to amuse me… babaw noh!… naalala ko tuloy my co-SI, si Mike Corsino, who used to keep on singing this a lot, pedia interns pa lang kami, apparently he got to see this every afternoon pag may from duty status, hehehe!).

Otherwise, here are my Top Ten (oh btw I study during the commercials… uh, during uninteresting commercials…):

1. Reality TV contests – I lumped it all in one heading na, kasi, haller, medyo lang, name it, I’ve seen it…

a. I enjoyed The Amazing Race and rooted for the hippies (kasi like sila ng sisters kong si Lei and Cel, and my best friend Lexi – btw sorry pala to Phoebe, I liked the hippies)… and they won…

b. I watched American Idol, followed it actually, and believe it or not, I was rooting for Taylor Hicks (Soul Patrol!!!) the whole time… hahaha… lam nyo naman how much I like cheering for the underdog diba… btw, sorry kay Mariel my beloved future-modelo-rin cousin, who worships Kat McPhee… I also liked Chris and Eliot, and there was a time there na I wished sana sila 3 pumasok para masaya… Anyway. Oh well, the rest is history… J btw whatever happened na pala kaya to my former Idols Bo Bice, Constantine and Anwar??? Hmm. Ma-google nga…

c. Beauty and the Geek (grabe no pati ba naman yun)!! I liked Shaun, and then Mindi… oo lam ko hindi sila magkapartner pero like ko sila eh… gusto ko rin yung mejo chubby na girl, her name slips me at the moment, yung girl na may boyfriend sa group, nice kasi sha eh. Tapos siempre entertaining rin si Richard and his tiff with Chuck. Haay. Ano ba!!? I actually got sold into the whole thing! Somewhere along the way kasi I was kind of deluded into thinking that Ashton Kutcher (showbiz crush for the longest time na now, not counting Piolo) was involved in the Beauty and the Geek project. Whatever led me to the idea kaya? Hmmm. Neway,I’d like to think I’m a bit of both…J

d. I also watched (still watching) Project Runway… and although I really, really, really love Jay, gusto ko rin sana si Austin (I mean if I had to choose a wedding designer, I’d consider Austin Scarlett)… plus I think Kara Saun deserved it the most. Wala lang.

e. I’m also still watching America’s Next Top Model cycle 4. I like Brittany, she’s my favorite, she’s loud and all, kaya she’s fun J… kamukha nya my friend Gab … and kahet alam ko na kung sino mananalo (and I like the winner too, she’s spunky and pretty), pinapanood ko pa ren… I wonder when my cousin Meryl (she models for Elite) would join this?

f. Oooh, and my sobrang favorite right now, Last Comic Standing (season 3, battle of the best) on JACK tv!!! J J J Would you believe that I’ve seen even the 1st 2 seasons, thanks to ETC… hell, I know about the quirky Buck Star J and all that… Anyway. You know what, maybe I actually do have a good eye/ear for comedy? Funny girl, yeah, that’s me. Kasi nananalo yung mga gusto kong manalo! J I did root for the winner in Season 1, si Dat Phan (primarily coz mabuhay mga Asyano!! Woohoo! He reminds of my cuz Jeff, hahaha! Pero more importantly, he’s very funny! J J Diba? Diba? I’m a Dat Phan fan! I also liked Rob Cantrell, for some reason, kahet hindi sha ganun ka-funny). Sa Season 2 naman, for me, it was a toss between John Heffron and Alonzo Bodden (my brother found Alonzo funniest), so okay, diba, pareho silang winners. Yun lang. Now I’m watching The Battle of the Best (JACK tv, every Saturday, I dunno what time it’s on, but it’s right after Iron Chef America on the food network, and Banzai, which is also on Jack), to root for the same people. Mahal ko rin kasi si Jay Mohr (ok ok, so I hated him super in Jerry Maguire, pero I loved him on "Action", it was a show sa HBO dati). I think he’s an intelligent comic. Newei, lam ko na ren kung sino mananalo sa Battle of the Best (I googled, ok??), haaay, and I know that now, there’s a 4th season na sa US, and that Jay is not hosting it. Why oh why? Syeet.

Et cetera… (just starting to watch Rockstar: Supernova so wala pa akong input)

2. Chismis TV – Haynako, I never outgrew this. Transcomm time pa. Haay. Oh well. Kaya ko luv si Kris Aquino eh, she’s got the best job. I almost never miss The Buzz. I also like Star Talk, but sometimes I miss that kasi nag-aaral ako (seriously). And thanks to my growing awareness of the beautiful programs Sky Cable Platinum has to offer, I now devour the E! Hollywood news. Grabe.

3. Talk Shows – I don’t follow them, but when I’m not doing anything, and they’re on, I watch. Conan, Jay (Taylor Hicks!!! Este), Dave, Oprah, Ellen, Tyra… basta sila. Hey wait, I just remembered, is Jojo A’s show still around? Ano na nga bang channel nun? Anyway, I kind of caught several of his shows, sabi ng sis ko, "institusyon" na ang Jojo A All The Way. Anyway, my two cents: it’s so unfunny it’s funny. J Nakakatawa panoorin. Hahaha.

4. Going Bulilit!!!! OMG! I love those kids! I never miss it!!! J I mean, as far as gag shows go, they’re the cutest (I still have a special spot in my heart for Bubble Gang, though, they have the best comedians! Si Bitoy pa lang eh! Fave ko yun!)!!! Sila Sharlene, Igiboy, Yong An, Nikki, Basty, Nash… basta like na like ko silang lahat. CUUUUTE! Sana kasali si Diego baby bro ko.

5. Iron Chef America!!! I love this show so much, kakatuwa, that I started watching all the other Food shows din… my favorite Iron Chef is Mario Batali (and now I have to greet my friend Charo, who watches this too, hello!). I now also watch 30 minute meals with Rachel Ray, and Emeril, if I have the time. Hell, I now even cook noh, and help out sa kitchen! Grabe. Although I think it’s more like, "well, anything to keep me from having to study" rather than the influence of the Food network.

6. The Simpsons. Daily on the Cartoon Network, double episodes pa dati. Plus we have some Simpsons original DVDs pa, kakainis. This cartoon will singlehandedly spell my downfall. My indulgence, guilty pleasure, waste of time that I willingly embrace. HAAAAAYYY… kung dati, it was FRIENDS reruns, ngayon The Simpsons reruns ang sisira sa akin, buhuhu!

7. The Fab 5. Need I say more? Darating daw sila ha. I love Carson (of course) and Jai Rodriguez (kahet na sha siguro pinaka-walang kwenta… ang cute nya eh, he’s like, I dunno, kind of like M. Night Shyamalan).

8. Grey’s Anatomy and House, MD. Waah, para lang masabing med-related ang TV addiction ko. Naadik ako simula pa ng internship, coz many people were watching these shows on their laptops (cough cough, Dr Songco). Joms san na ang copy ko!!!?? Heheh, thanks. However, I don’t enjoy Scrubs, inaantok ako, not as much, as, say, Ally Mc Beal (which I loved), and a friend of mine who pitched Scrubs to me said it was a lot like Ally. Hindi kaya.

9. That 70’s Show. You know, as much as I love Ashton Kutcher, I never got around to watching this show. So now, I do.

10. MAD tv. This started out as something that I watched only because it was the kicker for that 70’s show. Wala lang, kakaaliw sila, even if they do remind me of Saturday Night Live (which sadly, has become less funny, except for si Tina Fey and that other girl, yung nasa Mean Girls din, they crack me up!)

Pwede bang may # 11? 11. Banzai! It’s so stupid, but I like watching it. Ang kuleeeet!

PS. I miss Buffy the vampire slayer and FRIENDS and Sex and the City.

On the lovelife front

(Get it? Get it? Blangko)

Explanation

Of course, I have found that every blog I’d written had to feature something on the lovelife front, kaya lang, ganun, ganun pa ren, blangko. Suffice it to say that the last lowlife I really really liked jolted me back to earth, and made me realize that, heck I’m waaay too good and too matino for most of the people that I like (kasi as it turns out I have awful taste most of the time – I had to add "most of the time" kasi nakakahiya naman to my now great friends – ehem ehem — who know for a fact na naging like ko sila, hahaha!). SO no more comment, I’ve found out that merely paying attention to it fuels the whole thing. I’ve received many sympathy "kaya mo yans" than you can shake a stick at (ofcors noh kaya ko to), for which I am grateful, and many curious chismackers have pulled me aside to elaborate, so, ayoko na. Nakabangon na si Pacquiaoielau.

Anyhow, I’m happy being blangko now. But being totally blangko is a lie, I must say… I haven’t quite achieved the Phoebe status (love you hon!) of unbelievable crushless Zen. Whereas Phoebe hasn’t had a mindblowing real love/crush in almost a decade (excepting Bae Yong Joon and the Korean mafia), I haven’t had a major one in around a year lang. Give me 9 more years hon, then maybe I have truly reached the Phoebe stage, the Nirvana of the crushing souls.

Marami naman akong little crushes, I can have as many as two little crushes in a week (not counting my crushes on Piolo and Ryan Agoncillo – Judy Ann you rock! — and Ashton, which are, although just as improbable, as real and major to me as the ones-who-got-away were). But hey, won’t you look at that, I’ve spent so much time here na, so next time ko na lang kwento ang little crushes ko. Mahaba-haba na… that’s enough keeping away from my reviewing for the moment. You know how much I want to keep away from reading? Grab this, I totally reorganized the "architecture" of my room (influence din ng decorating schemes from Lifestyle network), fixed my laptop/PC, and I even willingly wash the dishes, cook (feeling Sous Chef ni Manang Zen), babysit my brother… Grabe.

Now on video

My warmest haller to all my friends, may God bless us all.

: Blue Moon, directed by Joel Lamangan, starring many, many magagaling na actors and actresses, but more importantly, ME, and my friends Dennis Fernandez, Dra. Julie Pua-Ferraz, Marris Tec-de Jesus and Andrei Cifra star in cameos. No kidding! Serioso! We earned 200 bucks each for our very short time. Blink and you’ll miss us. Oh well. Regal babies na kame!!! (Again I’d like to mention my friend Chona, ate Charo, for getting us this gig! Kami sana ni Oliver, but then again, it turned out fine otherwise… thanks Cha!)
